Langley, BC – Spring has blossomed at the new Timms Community Centre, with hundreds of Langley residents and visitors getting active and ready just in time for summer.
“Our vision from the beginning was for the Timms Centre to become a vibrant hub of sports and culture in the Langley community, and it hasn’t taken long for it to become just that,” said Mayor Ted Schaffer. “It’s fantastic to see people take charge of their health and embrace a healthy and active lifestyle.”
Since the Centre opened at the end of February, its new facilities have seen extensive use by those training for specific goals or just looking to get active and connect with others in the community. Classes have been taking advantage of the new spin rooms and multipurpose rooms for a wide range of activities including Hatha Yoga, Ballroom Dancing, and Zumba. The Spin Fit classes have been particularly popular, attracting young and old alike.
“Timms is so accessible and welcoming. From my own observations, it seems like people are willing to try activities that they wouldn’t have necessarily considered before,” said Christine Daum, one of the City of Langley’s Recreation Supervisors at the Timms Community Centre. “It doesn’t matter what their level of fitness is or whether they’ve experienced an activity before, everyone leaves classes with a big smile on their faces.”
Those looking for a more intensive workout have been exploring the new state-of-the-art Technogym fitness equipment, utilizing its advanced health tracking features to track their progress. The Timms Centre’s professional fitness instructors are on hand to demonstrate the new equipment and provide advice on proper technique.
Programs and hours of operation have expanded to enable members to fit in a morning workout or lunchtime classes. To learn more about program offerings and classes visit the Centre in person at 20399 Douglas Crescent, Langley or online at http://www.timmscommunity.ca/.
