Competition #24-10, Development Engineering Team Lead, Regular Full-time

Langley City is positioned in a rapidly growing area strategically located in Metro Vancouver and has a vibrant community spirit and an inspiring vision of being “The Place To Be” now and in the future. Skytrain has been approved to be extended to the City within the very near future.

The City is seeking a full-time Development Engineering Team Lead to join our Engineering Services Division. Reporting to the Manager of Engineering Services, this role is responsible for leading, planning, assigning, reviewing, and participating in the work of one or more technical subordinates engaged in duties related to design reviews for subdivision and development applications, and providing technical advice, assistance, or decisions to assist with the unusual, problematic, and complex files. The successful applicant will ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, regulations, bylaws, and municipal guidelines at a supervisory level. 

The Development Engineering Team Lead participates in inter-departmental meetings, assisting with the review of development application engineering requirements and standards; assesses and provides feedback on various programs to streamline the development review process in accordance with City bylaws and policies; identifies offsite engineering servicing requirements; reviews sub-division/rezoning approvals as required; and recommends amendments to regulations and processes to reflect best and current practices. The role also assists in administration of municipal construction contracts and assists in planning of the capital improvement program and development cost charge program for infrastructure additions, improvements and replacement.

RATE OF PAY:  Pay Grade 30:  $44.77 to $47.80 (2021 C.U.P.E. rates)

HOURS OF WORK:  35 hours per week (Monday to Friday)

Completion of a Diploma in Engineering Technology from a recognized institution plus considerable related experience in development engineering, preferably including some supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience would be an asset. Registration or eligibility to be registered with the Applied Science Technologists and Technicians Association of BC and a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License are required. Competition #24-11, Building Official I, II, or III - Plan Reviewer/Inspector, Regular Full-time

The City is seeking an experienced Building Official (I, II, or III) – Plan Reviewer/Inspector to join the Development Services team. This position reviews, processes and issues building permits applications and inspects building permits in accordance with the B.C. Building Code. The Building Official – Plan Reviewer/Inspector also provides technical information and assistance to property owners, contractors, engineers, architects, and other municipal staff on matters related to the work. Considerable independence of judgement and action is exercised in the technical aspects of the work while unusual problems or policy matters are discussed with a superior.

RATE OF PAY:  Level I -   $36.32 - $38.48 per hour (2021 C.U.P.E. rates) 
                          Level II -  $42.15 - $44.77 per hour (2021 C.U.P.E. rates)
                          Level III - $43.54 - $46.30 per hour (2021 C.U.P.E. rates)

HOURS OF WORK:  35 hours per week (Monday to Friday)

The successful candidate will have thorough knowledge of the B.C. Building Code, related bylaws, acts, standards, and regulations related to the building trade. Completion of a Diploma in Building Technology from a recognized post-secondary institution, supplemented by related courses, plus considerable related field and municipal experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience is required. Applicants must possess a valid Class 5 B.C. Driver’s Licence and one of the following:

Level I – Registration as a Building Official and BOABC Level 1 Qualification.
Level II – Registration as a Building Official, BOABC Level 2 Qualification, and POABC Level 1 Qualification.
Level III - Registration as a Building Official, BOABC Level 3 Qualification, and POABC Level 1 Qualification.

The City is seeking a Temporary Full-Time Equipment Operator 2 (Mowing Operations) to work in the Parks Operations Division of the Engineering, Parks and Environment Department. This position is scheduled to begin April 4, 2024, and end October 4, 2024, with the possibility of extension.

RATE OF PAY:  $31.61 per hour (2021 C.U.P.E. rate)

HOURS OF WORK:  40 hours per week (Monday to Friday)

Temporary full-time employees are paid 6% of their regular earnings in lieu of paid annual vacation.

A valid Class 5 B.C. Driver’s Licence and experience with the operation of push mower, line trimmer, John Deere Tractor, Toro Wide Cut Rotary Mower and pull-behind 7-Gang Mower are required. Join the fun in Recreation! Langley City is currently recruiting Casual Recreation Workers for a variety of programs in the Recreation, Culture & Community Services Department. We are looking for enthusiastic recreation workers to support various recreation programs for all ages, such as cooking, dance, badminton, basketball, games room, soccer, arts, crafts, summer camps. Recreation Workers also perform duties such as set up and take down, public engagement and interaction, and supporting activities at Community Special Events. 

Applicants should have strong leadership, organizational, communication, and customer service skills. Experience in instructing, coaching, recreation, summer camps and completion of High Five training is an asset. Current Emergency First Aid certification is required. RATES OF PAY:    
Recreation Worker 1:  $18.03 – $19.45 per hour (2021 C.U.P.E. rates) plus 12.5% in lieu of all benefits
Recreation Worker 2:  $19.67 – $21.34 per hour (2021 C.U.P.E. rates) plus 12.5% in lieu of all benefits

HOURS OF WORK:   
Up to 40 hours per week (depending on assignments) - Monday to Sunday; hours and days of work will vary including afternoons, evenings and weekends depending on programming and registration.

Competition #24-20, Administrative Clerk - Fire, Regular Full-time

The City is seeking an experienced and organized Regular Full-time Administrative Clerk - Fire to join the Fire Rescue Services Department. Reporting to the Fire Chief, this position coordinates a wide range of administrative support functions for the Department, including reviewing and maintaining a variety of correspondence, personnel and training records, reports, and other material, some of which may contain confidential information; supervising, training, checking, and assigning work to other clerical staff; and providing information, assistance, and direction to various internal and external contacts. The role also compiles and reviews departmental payroll, processes requests for information related to the work and under the direction of a superior, assembles a variety of statistical reports on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.

RATE OF PAY:  Pay Grade 16: $30.24 - $31.72 per hour (3 steps, 2021 CUPE rates) 

HOURS OF WORK:  35 hours per week, Monday – Friday.

Completion of Grade 12 supplemented by courses in business administration and considerable relevant administrative and supervisory experience, preferably within a municipal government and/or Fire administration setting is desired. Skill in the use of Microsoft Office applications is required and experience with FDM, Tempest and Agresso applications would be an asset.
