Applications are invited for two Regular Full-time Plan Checker/Inspectors to work in the Development Services Department.  Under the direction of the Manager of Building and Licensing, the Plan Checker/Inspector is responsible for reviewing plans accompanying applications for a variety of construction projects to ensure structures comply with the B.C. Building Code and City bylaws and related statures and coordinating the processing of applications through City departments.  The Plan Checker/Inspector is also responsible for assisting with the inspection of building projects during construction, alterations or repair to ensure compliance with approved plans, established by-laws, acts, codes, standards and regulations.  

RATE OF PAY:            Pay Grade 28:  $40.51 to $43.03 (2019 C.U.P.E. Rates)   

HOURS OF WORK:   35 hours per week (Monday to Friday)

The successful candidate will have thorough knowledge of the British Columbia Building Code, City by-laws, policies and regulations, including Workers’ Compensation Legislation.  A valid Class 5 B.C. Driver’s License along with Level 2 Building Official Certification from the Building Official’s Association of BC (BOABC) are required.  As condition of employment, the successful candidates will need to obtain their Level 3 Building Official Certification from BOABC by February 28, 2021. Graduation from a program at an Institute of Technology in building technology and a minimum of 2 years experience as a Plan Examiner in a city/municipality in the Province of B.C. with a primary focus on Part 3 buildings is desired. The City of Langley is looking for an individual with outstanding customer service and administrative skills to join our Clerical Casual Pool. Applications are invited for a Casual Clerk Typist 3 to work within various Departments such as Engineering, Development Services and Corporate Services. Casual assignments involve varied work providing coverage for staff absences and working on special projects as the needs arise.  It is anticipated that most assignments will be during the period May through September with limited assignments during the remainder of the year. The successful applicant may also be assigned work in areas such as accounts payable, accounts receivable, property tax collection and processing permit and license applications should they demonstrate the necessary skills and qualifications in one or more of these areas.

RATE OF PAY*:      Pay Grade 12:  $26.90 to $27.95 per hour (C.U.P.E. 2019 rates)
HOURS OF WORK:    Up to 35 hours per week (Generally, Monday-Friday 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.)
*May vary according to assigned work.  
Casual employees are paid 12.5% of their regular earnings in lieu of benefits and paid vacation.

Applicants must be available Monday to Friday.   Completion of grade 12 supplemented by business courses and several years of clerical experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience is desired.  Additionally, experience in local government and familiarity with municipal services and software programs such as Microsoft Office, Tempest, Unit 4 (Agresso), eDocs DM Document Management Systems and Active Net are desired.   R.C.M.P Secure Reliability Clearance or the willingness to obtain one would be an asset (required for assignments in Langley Youth and Family Services).   Details of the positions and the requirements can be found in the job description.

Applications are invited for a Temporary Full-Time Shift Supervisor in the Recreation, Culture and Community Services Department at Al Anderson Memorial Pool. Reporting to the Recreation Supervisor, the Shift Supervisor is responsible for the short-term aquatic programming and operation of Al Anderson Memorial Pool. The casual assignment starts April 6 to April 30, 2021 and again September 7 to September 10, 2021 when it ends. The temporary full-time assignment starts May 3, 2021 and ends September 3, 2021.

RATE OF PAY:           Shift Supervisor: $28.53 - $29.38 per hour (2019 C.U.P.E. rates)

HOURS OF WORK:   40 hours per week (TFT); up to 40 hours (Casual)
                                  (Monday to Sunday including days, afternoons, evenings and weekends)

Temporary Full-Time employees are paid 6% of their regular earnings in lieu of benefits and paid annual vacation. Casual employees are paid 12.5% in lieu of all paid benefits.

A valid Standard First Aid Certificate, National Lifesaving Award, Basic Rescuer CPR, Red Cross Instructor Award, BCRP Pool Operator I Certification and Lifesaving Instructor Award are required. Extensive experience in lifeguarding and instruction, a Lifesaving Examiner Award, National Lifesaving Instructor Award, Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Training, BCRPA Pool Operator II Certification, BCRPA Aquafit Instructor Certification (or equivalent), CPR Instructor Certification, Red Cross Aquatic Programmers Course, or equivalent combination of training and experience are desired.
