The City has one of the most active industrial and service commercial land bases found in the Lower Mainland.  Langley City has an attractive career position available for a Fire Fighter, an opportunity to join a progressive and innovative fire department.

The successful candidate will have graduated with Grade 12 or equivalent, will have a valid Class 3 Driver’s licence with Air Brake Endorsement, a valid CPAT certificate, and will have completed NFPA 1001 Level 2, NFPA 472 Hazmat Operations, and First Responder Level 3 with AED and Spinal Endorsements. HOURS OF WORK:        An average of 42 hours per week (Monday to Sunday) 

RATE OF PAY:                $31.58 - $47.83 per hour

Applications are invited for the Regular Full-Time position of Planning Assistant 2 in the Development Services and Economic Development Department.  Reporting to the Director of Development Services and Economic Development, the Planning Assistant 2 position is customer service oriented, providing technical information and guidance to the public with respect to bylaws, policies, the official Community Plan, the Zoning Bylaw, development guidelines and all other development related application processes.   The incumbent is expected to perform assigned duties with minimal direct supervision and interpret moderately-complex technical information, policies and procedures and explain them to the public.  The successful candidate is responsible for and will have the ability to conduct accurate and independent research in support of planning issues, using various sources and software applications such as drafting, mapping and other graphic design software to analyze, interpret and make recommendations based on information obtained. 

RATE OF PAY:             Pay Grade 21:  $32.84 to $34.91 per hour                           

HOURS OF WORK:    35 hours per week (Monday to Friday)

A University Diploma in Urban Planning and courses in urban design, geography, civil engineering or related disciplines and experience in a City/Municipality in the Province of B.C. or an equivalent combination of training and experience are desired.  A University Degree in Urban Planning is preferred.    A valid Class 5 B.C. Langley City is a progressive and well-led organization and has an attractive career position available for a Director of Development Services.   With the extension of the fixed rail rapid transit to Langley City no longer a distant vision, Langley City is approaching a pivotal moment as it grows within an increasingly connected region. The associated Transit Oriented Development (TOD) opportunities will provide new access and connections to Metro Vancouver, opening up a new awareness and market opportunity for the City. It will further reinforce the City as a regional city centre within Metro Vancouver and a development hub in the Fraser Valley. The recently adopted vision documents Langley City: Nexus of Community and its companion document entitled Langley City Vision: Recommendations and Implementation Report establish a comprehensive plan that predicts transformational growth and that builds on Langley City’s strengths to create a vibrant and thriving model community over the next 25+ years. The Director of Development Services will play an integral role in turning aspirational and functional goals from dream into practical reality.  An update to the Official Community Plan and Zoning Bylaw is already underway along with the creation of the Nicomekl River District Neighbourhood Plan.

Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer, the Director is responsible for the effective leadership, advice and support on planning; building, bylaw and licensing; and development sustainability initiatives. The Director is responsible for identifying and researching planning issues and for developing and administering comprehensive plans, programs, policies and regulations for the physical growth and the social development of the community and for the preparation and updating of the Official Community Plan and Zoning Bylaw.  The City is seeking an experienced individual who is comfortable managing many different priorities concurrently, and whom is adept at moving agendas forward in a multi-stakeholder environment. The successful candidate will be a visionary and innovative individual with strong strategic and public consultation skills along with the dedication, commitment and drive to ensure the successful completion of objectives established by Council, City bylaws and provincial statutes.

The ideal candidate will have a Master’s Degree in community or regional planning recognized by the Canadian Institute of Planners and has 7 to 10 years of progressively responsible supervisory experience.  Registration as a Member of the Canadian Institute of Planners and a valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence is required.  Details of the position and its requirements can be found in the job description.

Applications are invited for the Regular Full-Time position of Clerk Typist 3 to work in the Emergency Management Program based at the Langley City Fire Department.  The Clerk Typist 3 reports to the Fire Chief and works with the Emergency Management Program Co-ordinator and volunteers providing administrative support in the Emergency Management Program for both Langley City and the Township of Langley. 

RATE OF PAY:   Pay Grade 12:  $26.90 to $27.95 per hour

HOURS OF WORK:   35 hours per week

The successful candidate will have superior computer skills including Microsoft Office, Word, Excel and Powerpoint.  Knowledge of Adobe, eDocs DM Document Management System and social media such as Facebook and Twitter is an asset.  Knowledge of Emergency Management B.C. and Emergency Social Services and experience with volunteer coordination would be an asset.
