Community Day - Country in the Park!

The free family fun event will have a delicious BBQ fundraiser in support of the Douglas Park Community School, 20+ community service booths, Kids zone Activities (face painting, balloon animal artists, games, bouncy castles and more), Activity Zone (hamster ball races, 9-hole mini golf, jacobs ladder,  a rock climbing wall, dunk tank & horsey hops), Langley Fire Rescue Kids Challenge, Highland Games for all ages including the annual Tug-O-War with City Council, Langley City Staff, Langley Fire Rescue and the crowd, and the launch of Strata of the Year and Street of the Year nominations.

Strata of the Year will receive a plaque and a free seven-day pass to Timms Community Centre for each resident in the winning strata. Passes must be redeemed by September 17th and will expire December 31, 2016.   We would need to get the total number of people dwelling in the strata at the time of submission – that would be the number of passes issued.

Criteria for Strata of the Year:

1. Clean and well-kept

The street is free from litter, has well-maintained boulevards (including grass or other plantings) and conveys an overall feeling of ownership and pride.

2. Clean and well-kept balconies

Residents display clean well-kept, decorative and unique balconies that convey an overall feeling of ownership and pride.

3. Demonstrates a sense of community

A sense of community may be evidenced in any number of ways, including through organized block parties or neighbourhood watch groups, or by having extra neighbourly residents.

4. Displays unique features

Unique features may include both physical and non-physical features that make a street stand out as a special place.

Photos and descriptions of the nominated stratas will be posted on the City of Langley website at city.langley.bc.ca for public viewing.

The nomination period closes July 15th, 2016.

Street of the Year will receive a block party for up to 75 people on Saturday September 17th, 2016. TBD by Match Eatery & Public House.
