Competition #24-27, Building Official II or III - Plan Reviewer/Inspector, Regular Full-time (New Rate)

Langley City is positioned in a rapidly growing area strategically located in Metro Vancouver and has a vibrant community spirit and an inspiring vision of being “The Place To Be” now and in the future. Langley City has all the amenities of any urban centre in very close proximity: great shopping, over 346 acres of parkland, world-class educational institutions, and entertainment facilities. Skytrain has been approved to be extended to the City within the very near future.

The City is seeking an experienced Building Official II or III – Plan Reviewer/Inspector to join the Development Services team. This position reviews, processes and issues building permits applications and inspects building permits in accordance with the B.C. Building Code. The Building Official – Plan Reviewer/Inspector also provides technical information and assistance to property owners, contractors, engineers, architects, and other municipal staff on matters related to the work. Considerable independence of judgement and action is exercised in the technical aspects of the work while unusual problems or policy matters are discussed with a superior.

RATE OF PAY:  Level II -  $54.44 per hour
                          Level III - $59.23 per hour

HOURS OF WORK:  35 hours per week (Monday to Friday)

The successful candidate will have thorough knowledge of the B.C. Building Code, related bylaws, acts, standards, and regulations related to the building trade. Completion of a Diploma in Building Technology from a recognized post-secondary institution, supplemented by related courses, plus considerable related field and municipal experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience is required. Applicants must possess a valid Class 5 B.C. Driver’s Licence and one of the following:

Level II - Registration as a Building Official, BOABC Level 2 Qualification, and POABC Level 1 Qualification.
Level III - Registration as a Building Official, BOABC Level 3 Qualification, and POABC Level 1 Qualification.

Competition #24-38, Recreation Worker 5 (Fitness Instructors), Casual (Up to 2)

Langley City has all the amenities of any urban centre in very close proximity: great shopping, over 346 acres of parkland, world-class educational institutions, and entertainment facilities. 

Applications are invited for Casual Recreation Worker 5 (Fitness Instructors) in the Recreation, Culture & Community Services Department. We are looking for enthusiastic fitness instructors to provide quality fitness instruction for a variety of group fitness classes including: TRX, Cardio, HIIT, and Spin along with weight room supervision. The successful candidate will design and instruct safe, effective, and appropriate fitness classes and programs to meet the needs of different demographics. 

RATE OF PAY:  Recreation Worker 5: $30.89 - $36.04 per hour (2024 C.U.P.E. rate)

HOURS OF WORK:  Monday to Sunday – evenings and weekends
                                  *Hours of work will depend on programing and operational needs

Casual employees are paid 12.5% of their regular earnings in lieu of all paid benefits.

BCRPA Group Fitness Instructor (or equivalent), BCRPA Group Weight Training (or equivalent) and current Emergency First Aid Certification are required. Personal Training certification is an asset.

Competition #24-39, Recreation Worker 4 (Preschool ECE Substitute Instructor), Casual

The City is seeking a Casual Recreation Worker 4 (Preschool ECE Substitute Instructor) in the Recreation, Culture & Community Services Department. The Early Childhood Education is required to work independently and is responsible for implementing a developmentally based, educational program for preschool children that meets the emotional, physical, cognitive, and social needs of individuals and the group. This position will provide coverage for vacation, illness, and other absences. There may also be opportunities to provide additional coverage as a Recreation Worker 2 (Inclusion Support Worker). 

RATE OF PAY:  Recreation Worker 2: $23.14 - $25.01 per hour (2024 C.U.P.E. rate).    
                          Recreation Worker 4: $27.50 - $29.38 per hour (2024 C.U.P.E. rate).
                          (Per Letter of Understanding, receives an additional $6 per hour ECE Wage Enhancement.)

HOURS OF WORK:  Hours will vary depending on operational needs.

Competition #24-40, Supervisor - Plan Review, Regular Full-time

Langley City is positioned in a rapidly growing area strategically located in Metro Vancouver and has a vibrant community spirit and an inspiring vision of being “The Place to Be” now and in the future. Langley City is experiencing great growth with exciting projects on the horizon including the arrival of Skytrain and a new OCP. Future projects will involve various levels of complexity and design.

The City seeks a regular full-time Supervisor – Plan Review to join the Development Services team. This position performs supervisory, regulatory, technical and enforcement work in directing the day-to-day operation of the plans review function of the Building Division. The work involves mentoring, planning, assigning, coordinating, supervising and reviewing the work of technical subordinates and providing technical advice or decisions on unusual and complex plan reviewing assignments. The position coordinates the work of the Section with other departmental activities, performing plan reviewing of the more complex construction projects regulated under Part 3 of the B.C. Building Code, and providing advice and assistance to a variety of internal and external contacts. The successful candidate will exercise considerable independence of judgment and action in the interpretation and enforcement of the bylaws and in the supervisory and technical aspects of the work, discussing unusual, controversial and policy matters with a superior who reviews performance in terms of adherence to department policy and accomplishment of objectives.

RATE OF PAY:  $65.03 per hour

HOURS OF WORK:  35 hours per week (Monday to Friday)

The successful candidate will have Considerable knowledge of the B.C. Building Code related to all Levels of Buildings; Part 9 and Part 3 Buildings. Completion of a Diploma in Building Technology from a recognized post-secondary institution, supplemented by related courses, plus considerable related experience in the building, architectural, engineering field, or municipal field, including supervisory experience e; or an equivalent combination of training and experience is required. Building Officials Association of B.C. (BOABC) Level III Qualification, Registration as a Building Official and a valid Class 5 B.C. Driver’s License are also requirements of the position.
