Applications are invited for a Regular Full-time Plan Checker/Inspector to work in the Development Services Department.  Under the direction of the Manager of Building and Licensing, the Plan Checker/Inspector is responsible for reviewing plans accompanying applications for a variety of construction projects to ensure structures comply with the B.C. Building Code and City bylaws and related statures and coordinating the processing of applications through City departments.  The Plan Checker/Inspector is also responsible for assisting with the inspection of building projects during construction, alterations or repair to ensure compliance with approved plans, established by-laws, acts, codes, standards and regulations.  

RATE OF PAY:              Pay Grade 28:  $40.51 to $43.03   

HOURS OF WORK:     35 hours per week (Monday to Friday)

The successful candidate will have thorough knowledge of the British Columbia Building Code, City by-laws, policies and regulations, including Workers’ Compensation Legislation.  A Level 3 Building Official Certification from the Building Officials’ Association of B.C. and a valid Class 5 B.C. Driver’s Licence are required.  Graduation from a program at an Institute of Technology in building technology and a minimum of 2 years experience as a Plan Examiner in a city/municipality in the Province of B.C. with a primary focus on Part 3 buildings is desired. Applications are invited for Casual Clerk Typist 3’s for various Departments at Langley City such as Engineering, Development Services and Corporate Services.  Casual assignments provide coverage for vacation, illness and other absences.  It is anticipated that most assignments will be during the period April through September with limited assignments during the remainder of the year.  Duties include providing customer service to the public, community organizations and internal stakeholders.

RATE OF PAY:             Pay Grade 12:  $26.90 to $27.95 per hour

HOURS OF WORK:    *Up to 35 hours per week    
                                    *Will vary according to need and length of assignment)    
                                    *Generally the hours of operation are Monday to Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. 
Casual employees are paid 12.5% of their regular earnings in lieu of benefits and paid vacation.

Applicants must be available Monday to Friday.   Completion of grade 12 supplemented by business courses and several years of clerical experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience is desired.  Additionally, experience in local government and familiarity with municipal services and software programs such as Microsoft Office, Tempest, Unit 4 (Agresso), eDocs DM Document Management Systems and Active Net are desired.   R.C.M.P Secure Reliability Clearance or the willingness to obtain one would be an asset.   Details of the positions and the requirements can be found in the job description.
