WEIGHT TRAINING HELP
 
Need some help with your weight training program?  Whether you are new to weight training, in need of a complete routine make-over or just looking for some tips and motivation, the City of Langley Fitness Team is here to help you reach your goals. 
 
WEIGHT ROOM ORIENTATIONS: 
Book a 1-hour orientation with one of our BCRPA certified trainers and learn how to use the cardio and strength equipment safely and effectively.  Orientations will include a basic program designed for beginners to get you started in the weight room with confidence.  Please note, this is not a personal training program - it is a beginner program suitable for most individuals starting out with weight training.

Cost:  $12.50+gst

Dates/ Times:  A variety of days and times are available for Weight Room Orientations.  Please check with reception staff at Timms Community Centre to book a convenient time for you.

PERSONAL TRAINING PROGRAMS:  

Work with a certified BCRPA personal trainer to create a tailored fitness program to meet your specific needs and goals.  Personal Training sessions are one hour each and will include a fitness assessment, detailed program design, motivational workouts and support from your trainer.  Need extra motivation and support?  Book tandem training sessions and train with a friend or spouse!  Training sessions will be scheduled according to your availability so there's no excuse.... book your trainer today!

GROUP WEIGHT TRAINING PROGRAMS:

TEEN PUMP PROGRAM:  13-16 YRS.

A comprehensive weight training program just for teens teaching the safest, most effective techniques and exercises.  Youth 13-15yrs who successfully complete the TEEN PUMP Program will be permitted into the Timms Community Centre Weight Room without Adult Supervision.

This program follows the Hatha Yoga principles focusing on a healthy mind-body connection but moves through the various positions and a slower pace with gentle movements and mindfulness.  Ideal for all levels of fitness and experience- beginners are welcome and encouraged to give this class a try - you will not regret it!

Hatha Yoga focuses on a healthy mind-body connection.  Learn how to control your breathing to improve oxygenation of the body and alleviate stress.  Hatha Yoga will help increase flexibility, strength and concentration.

CHAIR YOGA (14+ yrs)

This gentle yoga is practiced sitting on a chair or standing and using a chair for support.  Chair yoga is a great form of exercise for everyone as it deepens flexibility and strengthens body awareness no matter what your age or ability level.  This is an all-level class appropriate for those who have never taken a yoga class before as well as experienced practitioners.

ESSENTRICS (14+ yrs)

This slow paced full body workout combines lengthening and strengthening exercises while engaging all the muscles in your body.  It is a low impact workout using your own body weight and a mat.  Essentrics training is suitable for all levels of fitness and will help release emotional stress, aches and pains while gradually unlocking your entire body to improve posture, flexibility and overall strength.  Participants must be comfortable getting to and from the floor.

YOGA-PILATES FUSION (14+ yrs)

The new work-out you should be trying!  The best of Pilates and Yoga mixed into one great class focusing on increasing your strength, flexibility and balance while being mindful of your breathing and movement.  Great for beginners and all fitness levels- this program will include mat work to strengthen the core (abs, lower back, hips and butt) combined with the yoga fundamentals to improve balance, flexibility, breath control and posture.

Tai-Chi (Yang style)

Brought to you by the Fraser Valley Tai Chi Arts (formerly known as Fraser Valley Taijiquan Association). Instructor Travis Crombie is a 7th generation teacher of Yang Style Tai. Chi with over 30 years experience.

Tai Chi is an ancient Chinese exercise which emphasizes slow, graceful, connected, flowing movements helping to cultivate a relaxed body and mind. It combines the calm of meditation, the harmonizing and healing potential of the best medicine and the subtle skills of the internal martial arts. Beginners welcome!  This course will teach:

- the fundamental exercises which will help loosen and relax the body;

-correct body alignments to help repair and heal joint, ligament and tendon problems;

-energy flow and breathing is known in Chinese medicine as Qi (Chi);

-Natural movements to develop strength, fluidity, endurance and body cohesion.

Pre/Post-Natal Fitness

Fit 4 Two™ offers a variety of fitness programs that are safe and effective for mom's to be and new moms.  Proper exercise and fitness routines may help with not only childbirth but recovery afterwards.  Fit 4 Two™ Instructors are specially trained to tailor workouts according to the needs of expecting moms and those new moms.  Classes are informative, fun and very social... great way to meet other mom's in your neighbourhood and spend some quality time with your babies.

 

STROLLER FITNESS (16+yrs)

Get a full body workout while spending time with your baby!  Each class includes intervals of power walking, functional strength training and cardio drills followed by post-natal specific core work and flexibility training.  Ideal for babies who like to be on the move and a great way to meet and socialize with other moms in your community.  This class is indoor/outdoor weather permitting- please dress accordingly.  Drop-ins welcome if space permits $14.50/visit.

Strengthen, stretch and breathe your way to a more comfortable pregnancy.  Improve posture, balance and flexibility as your instructor leads you through a series of pregnancy safe Yoga poses.  Prepare for labour by building stamina and learning how to use your breath.  Benefit from relaxation exercises that will help you now and as a new mother.  This is a great way to connect with other moms-to-be in your community as you enjoy the benefits of this popular class.

Group Weight Training

STRONGER YOU CIRCUIT

Ladies Only Strength & Conditioning Program

Stronger You Circuit is a small group women's only program designed to help you increase your strength in an effective and challenging way.  Our certified trainer incorporates functional exercise, anatomy integration, body awareness cues and habitual patterning to set the stage for building strength.  You will learn many different exercises and you will use various tools including dumbbells, kettlebells, TRX bands and gym machines.

Participants will meet 2X per week to establish accountability, commitment and consistency.  Registration occurs monthly and as the routines are constantly changing, you can repeat the program as many times as you like.  This program is recommended for those with beginner - intermediate fitness levels.  
Students and Seniors may receive a 25% discount- must register in person.

STRONGER YOU STRENGTH

Ladies Only Strength & Conditioning Program

An advanced training program for women who want to take their strength building to the next level and discover what it takes to become really, really strong.  Incorporating the barbell, bench, squat rack and smith machine our certified trainer will teach you the techniques necessary to effectively challenge your muscles and to stimulate the growth required to lift heavy.

You will learn four foundation strength lifts:  Back squat, Deadlift, Bench Press and Barbell Row.  You will also learn how to log and keep track of your weights in order to document your progress.  Classes may include endurance training, metabolic conditioning and tabata interval training.

Participants meet 2X per week to establish accountability, commitment and consistency.  Registration occurs monthly and as the routines are constantly changing you may repeat the program as many times as you like  Recommended for those with intermediate - advanced fitness levels.

Weight lifting is a great way to not only get in shape but improve your mood, relieve stress and increase your energy.  Working with a certified Personal Trainer, youth will learn the safest and most effective methods for strength and conditioning in the weight room.  The trainer will customize a workout plan based on individual goals and needs while teaching youth how to safely use the equipment in a small group setting.  Youth who successfully complete the Teen Pump program will be permitted to use the Timms Community Centre Weight Room without adult supervision.

Fit For Life

This advanced program is designed for those who have completed the Osteofit training or are actively mobile and regular exercisers.  Following a low impact cardio warm-up, participants will be let through a variety of strength and balance training using various equipment and body weight exercises.  This class involves mat work so participants must be comfortable getting to and from the ground.  Flexibility and relaxation techniques are also part of the fun!  Drop-ins permitted if space allows  $10/visit
