Date

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

[Langley City, B.C] – Timms Community Centre, in partnership with the BC Recreation and Parks Association and the University of British Columbia’s Active Aging Society, is thrilled to announce the upcoming Choose to Move Activity Program.

It is more than just a fitness program — it's a comprehensive physical activity support initiative aimed at helping older adults incorporate regular activity into their lives. “Being active is one of the most important things you can do to maintain your overall health. Being active can help you feel better, have more energy, and live longer”, said Christine Daum, Langley City Recreation Supervisor.

The fall program will run from September 21 to November 30, 2024, and includes motivational group meetings every Saturday from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM at Timms Community Centre (20399 Douglas Crescent).

Key features of the program include:

  • Personalized Guidance: Work closely with an experienced activity coach to develop a customized activity plan tailored to their preferences, schedule, and abilities. One-on-one consultations will provide the support needed to get started.
  • Community Connection: Engage in 8 dynamic group meetings to connect with like-minded peers, share goals, stay accountable, and explore a wide range of health and wellness topics together.
  • Empowerment, Not Just Exercise: Choose to Move is an empowering experience that provides the knowledge and confidence to live a more physically active and socially connected lifestyle — on your terms!
  • Backed by Science: The program is rooted in scientific research conducted by the University of British Columbia’s Active Aging Research Team.
  • Whether it’s exploring new places, spending quality time with loved ones, or maintaining independence at home, staying healthy and mobile is key to achieving your life goals.

To register, attend the required information session on Saturday, September 7, from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM at Timms Community Centre. After the session, if you and the activity coach determine that you’re ready to start, you’ll be invited to register for the fall program.
