All Dog Off-Leash Parks to be Open Today

Date

For Immediate Release

Langley City, BC – The City of Langley took immediate action to slow the spread of the virus by closing popular City facilities and amenities over concerns that users were not following the recommendations of B.C.’s Provincial Health Officer (PHO) to physically distance. Following encouraging reports from the PHO and indications that the public now better understand the public health measures needed to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Parks, trails and community gardens will continue to stay open, and the City will now be opening the remaining dog off-leash parks today (May 8). Signs reinforcing these safety measures will be posted at the sites to ensure COVID-19 health measures are followed, including:

  • Keeping at least two metres (six feet) away from people from other households;
  • Avoiding large groups;
  • Washing hands thoroughly and frequently; Bring sanitizing wipes and wipe down what you touch;
  • Limiting time if it’s busy; and,
  • Staying home if ill or exhibiting symptoms.

The City of Langley welcomes the four-phased B.C.’s Restart Plan by the Provincial Government, and is now working to implement these changes in our community. The City has identified amenities, services and facilities that may be open in the following weeks and months, and is now working with local authorities to comply with health and safety plans and procedures to create a phased re-opening strategy.

“We want to thank our entire community for coming together to flatten the curve,” said Mayor Val van den Broek. “Langley City Council will be reviewing the next steps to open more amenities for residents to enjoy. We ask for your patience and understanding as we work to implement changes carefully.”
