Fire Prevention Week 2015 - Hear the Beep where you Sleep

For Immediate Release                                                                                                                                                                 October 2, 2015

LANGLEY, B.C. – In recognition of Fire Prevention Week (October 4–10), starting this weekend Langley City Fire Rescue Service will host a variety of fun and informative events to help raise awareness about this year’s theme: Hear the Beep Where You Sleep. Every Bedroom Needs a Working Smoke Alarm!

This year’s information and events will focus on providing families and communities with information on having a working smoke alarm in every bedroom. Smoke alarms save lives. If there is a fire in your home, smoke spreads fast and you need smoke alarms to give you time to get out!

"Smoke alarms that are properly installed, maintained and tested on a regular basis are the number one way to reduce fire deaths and injuries," said Captain Rob Gunn, Fire Prevention Officer, Langley City Fire Rescue Service. "Fire can spread quickly through your home, leaving only precious minutes to escape. Your ability to get out fast depends on advanced warning from smoke alarms and advanced planning."

Fire prevention information packages will be delivered to local elementary students and as a reminder of the importance of fire safety – Langley City Fire Rescue Service is encouraging all schools to hold a fire drill during Fire Prevention Week. Participating City of Langley schools will be entered into a draw for a $200 gift certificate provided by the Downtown Langley Business Association. Other Fire Prevention Week activities will include:
