City of Langley, August 21st , 2015 - As a best practice for Watershed Stewardship and under the Metro Vancouver Integrated Liquid Waste and Resource Management Plan, the City of Langley, in joint study with the Township of Langley, will be completing an Integrated Stormwater Management Plan for the Nicomekl River watershed (upstream of 196 street).
The study will be conducted by Kerr Wood Leidal Associates Ltd. (KWL) and will take one approximately one year to complete –completion for this project is projected for Fall 2016. As part of this project, KWL will be undertaking a drainage system inventory, fish habitat survey, ecological assessment, and hydrogeological assessment of the creeks located in the Nicomekl River watershed. The documentation and assessments will consist of visual inspections of the creek channels as well as water sampling and documentation of significant points of interest (i.e. culverts, stormwater outfalls, obstructions etc.).
To complete the Integrated Stormwater Management Plan for the Nicomekl River watershed, staff from KWL may travel across private property along tributary streams, creeks and rivers throughout both the Langley City and the Township. Owners or tenants with creeks through their property will receive a letter from the City requesting access for KWL staff to complete the creek assessments. Fieldwork will be conducted from August 17th to September 30th, 2015. After the fieldwork is complete residents and stakeholders will have a chance to participate in the public consultation phase that will be announced.
