For Immediate Release February 5, 2016
Langley, BC –With the Timms Community Centre Grand Opening around the corner, the City of Langley is ramping up their drive to get people out and active. Throughout February, the City will be promoting health through its "Moments of Activity" campaign.
"Building on the 5-2-1-0 principle of healthy living, we are trying to show people how easy it can be to get one hour of activity each day,” says Mayor Ted Schaffer. “All it takes are moments where you mindfully say ‘I’m going to get up and get active’ - it could not be easier.”
The Moments of Activity campaign is a video challenge from City Council to all of Langley. The challenge is to get other organizations, community groups, residents and public to record and upload their Moments of Activity to YouTube and then share them via social media with the hashtag #ActiveMoments. Participants are also asked to challenge three friends to show their Moments of Activity for a chance to win 6 months free membership to the Timms Community Centre. City Council has started the campaign off by challenging Langley City Fire and Rescue, Langley City Senior Staff, and Langley Division of Family Practice. The video challenge can be seen on YouTube at: https://youtu.be/R-iA6Ya0Jsc
“Keep an eye out for your Moment of Activity,” encourages Mayor Schaffer. “It could be anywhere in the City, online, or right next door!”
The new Timms Community Centre will host its Grand Opening on Wednesday, February 24. The event will include a ribbon-cutting ceremony, live music, giveaways, and a chance to try out the Centre’s many exciting new features. More information about the Timms Community Centre can be found at timmscommunity.ca.
We can’t wait to see you there!
