Langley City Council Recognizes Timms Community Centre Sponsors

For Immediate Release                                                                                    January 26, 2016

Langley, BC – The City of Langley has moved a step closer to its vision for a healthy and active community after receiving $175,000 in donations to support the new Timms Community Centre. The sponsorship funding has been key to purchasing new fitness equipment for the Centre, providing access to state-of-the-art amenities for the whole community and offsetting the impact to taxpayers. The donations came from prominent families and business leaders in the community recognizing the important role healthy living, and an active lifestyle will play in the future of the community.

“What we are building today is a healthy future for our community,” said Ted Schaffer, Mayor of Langley. “Our vision for the new Timms Centre goes beyond a fitness facility and is focused on creating opportunities for everyone to lead a healthy lifestyle.”

Thanks to the generous support of donors, the Timms Community Centre will be instrumental in influencing positive health outcomes by promoting active living. The funding enables the City to provide enhanced equipment and amenities that benefit youth, seniors and families while ensuring future generations will continue to enjoy use of the centre as a vibrant hub for sports and culture.

All donors are formally recognized on the Centre’s wall of sponsors, and the gold and silver sponsors have name recognition rights to various multi-purpose rooms in the facility. The gold sponsors are the Jeffery Family and the Province of British Columbia. Silver sponsors are the Degemann Family, the Paolella Family, the Redekop Family, the Madsen Family, the Dams Family, the Wesik Family, and the bronze sponsors are OpenRoad Auto Group Limited, Ipex Inc., and Bernard and Barbara Kerr.

“That we’ve seen such an extraordinary outreach from families and businesses wishing to support the centre. This demonstrates the belief that the community has in our programs,” said Mayor Ted Schaffer,  “We hope that people will see what we are building here and consider how they can engage with the community and create a long-term positive impact as a legacy member or business partner.”

The new Timms Community Centre will open with a full range of exciting new amenities, including a gymnasium, running/walking track, weight room, spin room, games room and multipurpose rooms. The grand opening takes place on February 24th between 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm. Langley City’s certified fitness staff will also be on hand to provide training tips and guidance on how to properly use the equipment.  View the PDF.
