Langley City Leaving Tourism Langley

Public Service Announcement

Langley City, British Columbia, – Langley City Council has decided to change course with the delivery of tourism services in our community due to the uncertainty around the future of Tourism Langley. This decision was not an easy one to make, and was the result of the recent changes at Tourism Langley resulting in a Township-centric tourism body.

The City considered a number of options for the provisioning of tourism marketing services in the City including the creation of a new tourism service delivery model with a new service provider, or retaining Tourism Langley as its service provider.  The City was, and still is, concerned with the new governance model of Tourism Langley.  The City has apprehension about its ability to best serve the interest of Langley City tourism industry stakeholders as a result of this new model.

Langley City, in consultation with Langley City tourism industry stakeholders, has concluded that it is in the best interest of our tourism stakeholders to create a new Tourism Langley City entity to serve as the tourism Destination Marketing Organization for our community, and that its functions and services be delivered through a new service provider.

The City consulted with our six accommodation service providers and received a 100% endorsement from them for the City’s five year Strategic Plan and one year Tactical Plan.  The City will be submitting its five year Strategic Plan and the MRDT requirements to Destination BC and will cease its membership with Tourism Langley immediately.

This new direction will support Langley City’s thriving accommodation sector and will continue to promote the accommodation sector and tourism stakeholders in the City.
