LANGLEY CITY, BC – Several key initiatives in the City’s vision includes an update to the City’s Official Community Plan and Zoning Bylaw as well as the creation of the Nicomekl River District Neighbourhood Plan. Langley City has retained the services of MODUS Planning, Design & Engagement to carry out both assignments for the City through a competitive project procurement process.
“The Official Community Plan (OCP) and Zoning Bylaw updates will reflect the new vision of Langley City as well as incorporating current land use controls to carry out the City’s goals of encouraging improved urban design, creating pedestrian-friendly neighbourhoods, and building capacity to achieve sustainability goals,” explains Francis Cheung, Chief Administrative Officer for the City. “While the Nicomekl River District Neighbourhood Plan will establish development policy guidelines, form and characters schemes will transform the north and south side of the Nicomekl River corridor into a successful waterfront redevelopment.”
With planning work beginning on an extension of the Expo Line from Surrey to Langley City, the City of Langley is approaching a pivotal moment as it grows within an increasingly connected region. We recognize the great opportunity the City has to leverage this unprecedented investment in support of sustainable growth, and - as importantly - Langley's distinctive character and community desires. “At MODUS, we are honoured to be a part of this next chapter, and we look forward to connecting with the community. Working across disciplines - from policy planning to placemaking - our team promises a bold and engaging process to craft a uniquely 'made-in-Langley' Official Community Plan, Zoning Bylaw, and Nicomekl River District Neighbourhood Plan,” said Patrick Oystryk, Planner with MODUS.
It is anticipated that the creation of these three documents will take approximately 12 to 16 months. A robust public consultation process will be implemented to inform, educate and engage the community and key stakeholders at key junctures throughout the review process.
