Langley City, BC – In recognition of Fire Prevention Week (October 6 - 12), starting next weekend Langley City Fire Rescue Service will host a variety of fun and informative events to help raise awareness about this year’s theme:
“Not Every Hero Wears a Cape. Plan and Practice Your Escape!™”
This year’s information and events focus on educating everyone about the small but important actions they can take to keep themselves and those around them safe.
“Home fires today can burn faster than ever. Occupants may have as little as one to two minutes to escape safely from the time the smoke alarm sounds. Escape planning and practice can help you make the most of the time you have, giving everyone enough time to get out,” said Captain Brent Perry, Fire Prevention Officer. “While Langley City Fire Rescue Service is focusing on home fires, we encourage everyone to be aware of their surroundings wherever they go. No matter where you are, look for available exits. If the alarm system sounds, take it seriously and exit the building immediately.”
Fire prevention information packages will be delivered to local elementary students, and as a reminder of the importance of fire safety, Langley City Fire Rescue Service is encouraging all schools to hold a fire drill during Fire Prevention Week. Participating in Langley City schools will be entered into a draw for a $200 gift certificate provided by the Downtown Langley Business Association. Other Fire Prevention Week activities will include:
