For the last several years, the Crime Prevention Task Group experienced great success in educating the public about crime prevention and the protection of property. The task group undertook a number of initiatives such as educating businesses on how to improve security through environmental design, educating our residents on easy ways to increase personal and neighbourhood safety and connected with many residents face to face to share important crime prevention tips. Building on that success, City Council decided to strike another Crime Prevention Task Group this year to continue to educate the public and reduce crime in our City.
This group will be tasked with initiatives such as creating messaging about crime prevention, promoting the importance of community connectedness, sharing information about RCMP programs, engaging high risk youth and their parents in community building programs, and educating seniors about strategies to address issues related specifically to them.
