Our Commitment to Keeping Kids Safe

At the City of Langley, the safety of our camp participants (campers and their families and leaders) is always our first priority. We understand that many parents may have general concerns regarding the current COVID-19 respiratory illness and potential implications for our Daycamp program.

The City of Langley is actively monitoring and following the guidance of the BC Office of the Provincial Health Officer and the BC Centre of Disease Control - 2019 Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) BC public health guidance for schools and childcare programs and the British Columbia Recreation and Parks Association - Guidance and Consideration for Children's Day Camps during COVID-19 Pandemic.

Based on the health guidance for schools and childcare programs we have made the plans for a heightened level of health and safety at our summer camps. These include:

  • Smaller camp size, maximum 36 campers (funtastic adventure)
  • Smaller camp size, maximum 18 campers (sports camp)
  • No daily camp registration, weekly camp registration only
  • Routine daily screening for all staff and campers
  • Routine and frequent environmental cleaning
  • Explicit policy for children or staff who have the symptoms of a cold, flu, or COVID-19 with coughing or sneezing not coming into daycamp
  • Promote good hygiene and respiratory etiquette
    • Hand washing will happen continuously throughout the day
  • Maintain cleaning and disinfecting policies
  • Physical distancing (activities will all have the central idea of being physically distant)
  • Each child will have a bin that contains their supplies and their toys
    • Bin contents will include:
    • Personal supply bag
    • Craft “kit”
    • Play equipment (lego, ball, bean bags etc)
  • Each child will be given their own craft “kit” zip lock bag containing scissors, glue stick, crayons, and felts to reduce cross contamination
  • They will have their own designated area to put their belongings and when they need to go to their bag it will be done in an orderly fashion.
  • No food sharing
  • Increased outdoor activities to limit time in the building
  • Designated sign-in and sign-out area for parents

Daycamp FAQs

What can my child expect every day?
Children should come to camp ready to try a variety of new activities and experiences both indoors and out! All camps incorporate plenty of opportunities to explore and create, as well as unstructured free playtime. Specific themes and activities are subject to change, and some may be weather-dependant.

My child doesn't know anyone, will they be ok?
Many of our campers don’t know anyone when they first come to camp. We emphasize the importance of friendships and encourage campers to make connections with new and old friends.

What should I send with my child to camp?

  • bathing suit (camp-dependant)
  • healthy lunch
  • snacks
  • sunscreen and hat (weather-dependant)
  • towel
  • water bottle
  • weather-appropriate clothing and footwear for messy and/or outdoor play

 Do not send

  • money
  • electronics
  • phone
  • valuables

Can I send nuts to daycamp?
Our daycamps are “nut-aware”, which means that campers are requested not to bring nuts or nut products to any camp. This is for the safety of all campers.

Should I send my child’s phone or other electronics?
Electronics can be a distraction for all participants and are discouraged at our camps. We think it is important for all campers to be active and engaged, and we support them to make connections with other children at camp.

Can I register my child for just one day of camp?
Unfotunately, due to COVID-19 pandemic, we have cancelled all daily daycamp registration.

Will my child go swimming?
Unfortunately, due to COVID-19 pandemic, we have cancelled all our swim days at Al Anderson Memorial Pool

Will my child go on a field trip?
Unfortunately, due to COVID-19 pandemic, we have cancelled all our field trips

What if my child doesn’t like camp?
Who doesn’t like camp? We have tons of fun and find that once campers are settled in, they usually don’t want to leave. However, if they aren’t having fun, talk to us. We can recommend other camps or provide a pro-rated refund for the remainder of the camp.

What is Extended Play, Before and After?
Need more schedule flexibility on days your child is in a Daycamp? Take advantage of this program offered from 7:00 - 8:30am and 3:00 - 6:00pm at an additional cost.

My child has a support worker at school, do they need one at camp?
The City of Langley is committed to supporting children with developmental disabilities or delays to successfully participate in Langley City Daycamp programs. If your child requires extra support, please contact the Recreation Supervisor at 604-514-2865.

Can I send a support worker or aid with my child?
If you have your own support worker, we are happy to have them within our program. However, the support worker needs to complete a Police Information Check. Please contact us two weeks before the camp starts so we can provide you with the paperwork. This police check is needed for any adult participating in the program with the child (including parents).

On the first day camp, the leaders will meet with the support worker to discuss how to work with the participant.

What if I cannot get there to pick my child up on time after a day camp?
You may be subject to a late pick-up fee. If you need some flexibility in your schedule, consider our Extended Play options.
