Langley City, BC – The City of Langley is pleased to announce eight new Electric Vehicle (EV) charging stations and four replacements have been installed throughout the City. Six charging stations (four new and two replacements) have been installed at Timms Community Centre, located in the underground garage and parking lot outside the north entrance. Two charging stations have been placed at both Langley City Fire Hall on 203 Street and Douglas Recreation Centre on Douglas Crescent, and two replacement units at the Engineering and Parks Operations Centre on 198 Street.
“We are pleased to announce more EV charging options for public and City EV vehicles,” said David Pollock, Acting Director of Engineering, Parks, and Environment. “Our Mayor and Council, through approval of this and other capital projects, are providing green leadership as we strive to reduce our carbon footprint and protect our environment.”
The EV charging station locations were selected based on where they are accessible to both City and public vehicles as partial funding for this project was received by the province to support City electric vehicles. The remaining costs were paid through the Community Amenity Fund, which is funded by development within the City, at no cost to taxpayers. The new EV chargers will be user pay. Rates are comparable to other EV charge stations in the region. Revenue generated from these chargers is expected to recover power and installation costs.
All EV charging stations will be connected to Flo Network, a Canadian company, convenient payment application and will be available for public use. This initiative is one of the many projects that make the City of Langley - The Place to Be!
