Applications are invited for a Casual Recreation Worker 3 (Preschool Support Worker/Early Childhood Educator, Cookie Monster Preschool) to work in the Recreation, Culture and Community Services Department. Reporting to the Recreation Supervisor, the Preschool Support Worker will assist in the delivery of an active and well-organized preschool program by incorporating children requiring extra support into regular programming when possible or ensuring alternate plans are available. Additional hours may be available as a substitute Early Childhood Educator. As a substitute Early Childhood Educator you are required to work independently and will be responsible for a developmentally based educational program for preschool children age 3 – 5 which meets the emotional, physical, cognitive, and social needs of individuals and the group.

RATE OF PAY:             $19.81 to 21.26 per hour (2014 C.U.P.E. rates)

HOURS OF WORK:      Hours are subject to registration.
                                      The program dates and hours are as follows:

                                      Monday/Wednesday/Friday: 8:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. (Sept. 15 – June 19)

                                    
*Additional hours as a Substitute Early Childhood Educator may be available.
                                     (Up to 40 hours per week; Monday to Sunday)

Casual employees are paid 12% of their regular earnings in lieu of benefits and paid vacation.

A Certificate in Early Childhood Education, a valid B.C. Early Childhood Educator licence, a valid Emergency Childcare First Aid Certificate or Standard First Aid Certification with CPR B or C and a valid Class 5 B.C. Driver’s licence are all required.  Training or courses in behavioral/developmental challenges, autism spectrum, or special needs therapy are desired.  Details of the position and its requirements can be found in the job description.

Applications are invited for the assignment of Casual Labourer to work in the Engineering Operations Division and/or the Parks Operations Division of the Engineering, Parks and Environment Department.  Under the direction of the Superintendent for the Division, the successful candidates will be responsible for performing a variety of manual tasks in the maintenance and construction of roads, water and sewer utilities and parks.

RATE OF PAY:         $24.90 per hour (2011 C.U.P.E. rates)

HOURS OF WORK: Up to 40 hours per week (Monday to Friday)

Casual employees are paid 12% of their regular earnings in lieu of benefits and paid vacation.  

Experience in the maintenance and/or construction of: roads, utilities or parks is desirable.  B.C. Parks and Public Works industry related training is also desirable.  A valid Class 5 B.C. Driver’s License is required (maximum 6 points).  The successful candidate(s) will be required to undergo a criminal record check before commencing employment.  Details of the position and its requirements can be found in the job description.

Plan Checker/Inspector

Applications are invited for a casual Plan Checker/Inspector to work in the Development Services and Economic Development Department providing coverage for vacation, absences and for work projects. Under the direction of the Chief Building Inspector, the Plan Checker/Inspector is responsible for reviewing plans accompanying applications for a variety of construction projects and coordinating the processing of applications through City departments.

RATE OF PAY: Pay Grade 26: $33.21 to $35.34 per hour (2011 C.U.P.E. rates)

HOURS OF WORK: Will vary according to need; Up to 35 hours per week (Monday to Friday)

Casual employees are paid 12% of their regular earnings in lieu of benefits and paid vacation.

A Level 1 Building Official Certification from the Building Officials’ Association of B.C. and a valid Class 5 B.C. Driver’s Licence are required. Graduation from a program at an Institute of Technology in building technology and a minimum of 2 years experience as a Plan Examiner in a city/municipality in the Province of B.C. with a primary focus on Part 3 buildings is desired.
