The City of Langley has all the amenities of any urban centre in very close proximity: great shopping, 300 acres of parks, world-class educational institutions, and entertainment facilities. Easy access to the USA, the Pacific Ocean and the vast Coastal Mountain range makes the City of Langley an enviable place to live and work. The City has one of the most active industrial and service commercial land bases found in the Lower Mainland. The City of Langley has an attractive career position available for a Fire Fighter, an opportunity to join a progressive and well-led organization.

The successful candidate will have graduated with Grade 12 or equivalent, will have a valid Class 3 Driver’s licence with Air Brake Endorsement, a valid CPAT certificate, and will have completed NFPA 1001 Level 2, NFPA 472 Hazmat Operations, and First Responder Level 3 with AED and Spinal Endorsements. HOURS OF WORK:       42 hours per week (Monday to Sunday)

RATE OF PAY:            $25.92 – 38.14 per hour (2011 I.A.F.F. Local 3253 rates)

Applications are invited for the Regular Part-Time (35 hours per week) position of Recreation Worker 4 (Recreation Leader) to work in the Recreation, Culture and Community Services Department.  Reporting to Recreation Supervisor, the successful candidate will be responsible for organizing and implementing a variety of social, cultural and recreational activities for Youth.

RATE OF PAY:         $20.60 to $22.01 per hour (2011 C.U.P.E. rates)

HOURS OF WORK:  35 hours per week (Monday to Sunday);

Variable start and end times depending on programming and special events, for example:

Tuesdays:                                  11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Wednesdays and Thursdays:      1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Fridays and Saturdays:                2:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

Our comprehensive benefits package or a percentage in lieu of benefits is included.

Applicants should have strong leadership, organizational, communication, and customer service skills. A valid Class 5 B.C. Driver’s Licence is required.  A valid Standard First Aid Certificate and a Diploma or Certificate in Recreation from a recognized Community College and previous experience working with moderate to high at-risk youth or a combination of training and experience is desired. Applications are invited for the assignment of Casual Labourer to work in the Engineering Operations Division and/or the Parks Operations Division of the Engineering, Parks and Environment Department.  Under the direction of the Superintendent for the Division, the successful candidates will be responsible for performing a variety of manual tasks in the maintenance and construction of roads, water and sewer utilities and parks.

RATE OF PAY:         $24.90 per hour (2011 C.U.P.E. rates)

HOURS OF WORK: Up to 40 hours per week (Monday to Friday)

Casual employees are paid 12% of their regular earnings in lieu of benefits and paid vacation.  

Experience in the maintenance and/or construction of: roads, utilities or parks is desirable.  B.C. Parks and Public Works industry related training is also desirable.  A valid Class 5 B.C. Applications are invited for a casual Plan Checker/Inspector to work in the Development Services and Economic Development Department providing coverage for vacation, absences and for work projects. Under the direction of the Chief Building Inspector, the Plan Checker/Inspector is responsible for reviewing plans accompanying applications for a variety of construction projects and coordinating the processing of applications through City departments.

RATE OF PAY: Pay Grade 26: $33.21 to $35.34 per hour (2011 C.U.P.E. rates)

HOURS OF WORK: Will vary according to need; Up to 35 hours per week (Monday to Friday)

Casual employees are paid 12% of their regular earnings in lieu of benefits and paid vacation.

A Level 1 Building Official Certification from the Building Officials’ Association of B.C. and a valid Class 5 B.C. Driver’s Licence are required. Graduation from a program at an Institute of Technology in building technology and a minimum of 2 years experience as a Plan Examiner in a city/municipality in the Province of B.C. with a primary focus on Part 3 buildings is desired.
