Lifeguard / Instructor (25)

Casual

Recreation, Culture and Community Services Department

Competition #15-05

January 19, 2015

Applications are invited for Casual Lifeguard/Instructors to work in the Recreation, Culture and Community Services Department at Al Anderson Memorial Pool. Lifeguard/Instructors are responsible for promoting participation in aquatic activities, practicing good public relations, providing supervision of the public within the pool complex, assists with special events, and preparing and completing plans, records, and forms at the beginning and end of instructional sessions. The assignments will start on May 1, 2015 and will conclude on August 28, 2015.      

RATE OF PAY:               Lifeguard / Instructor:  $25.43 - $26.22 (2015 C.U.P.E. rates)

HOURS OF WORK:        Up to 40 hours per week                  

                                        (Monday to Sunday including days, afternoons, evenings, and weekends)

Casual employees are paid 12% of their regular earnings in lieu of benefits and paid annual vacation.

A valid Standard First Aid Certificate, National Lifesaving Award, Basic Rescuer CPR, Red Cross Instructor Certification, and Lifesaving Instructor Award are required.  Previous experience at Al Anderson Memorial Pool and Aquafit Instructor Certification are desired.   Details of the position and its requirements can be found in the job description.

Applications are invited for Casual Shift Supervisors in the Recreation, Culture and Community Services Department at Al Anderson Memorial Pool.  The Shift Supervisor is responsible for the aquatic program when the Director and the Recreation Supervisor are absent, and is also responsible for short term program and operations. The Casual Shift Supervisor assignments will start on April 27, 2015 and will conclude on August 28, 2015.

RATE OF PAY:                  Shift Supervisor:  $26.61 - $27.41 (2015 C.U.P.E. rates)

HOURS OF WORK:            Up to 40 hours per week.        

                                         (Monday to Sunday including days, afternoons, evenings, and weekends)

A valid Standard First Aid Certificate, National Lifesaving Award, Basic Rescuer CPR, Red Cross Instructor Award, BCRP Pool Operator I Certification and Lifesaving Instructor Award are required.  Extensive experience in lifeguarding and instruction, a Lifesaving Examiner Award, National Lifesaving Instructor Award, Red Cross Instructor Training Certification, BCRPA Pool Operator’s II Certification, BCRPA Aquafit Instructor Certification (or equivalent), CPR Instructor Certification or equivalent combination of training and experienced are desired.  Details of the position and its requirements can be found in the job description.
