Applications are invited for the Regular Full-Time position of Construction Chargehand to work in the Engineering Operations Division.  Under the direction of the Superintendent, Engineering Operations Division, the Construction Chargehand exercises independence of judgment and action in all phases of utilities installations and general engineering operations duties.  This supervisory position also includes manual work. 

RATE OF PAY:           $32.12 per hour (2011 C.U.P.E. rates)

HOURS OF WORK:   40 hours per week (Monday to Friday)

Applicants should have considerable knowledge of the standard practices, methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in public works operations.  The successful candidate will have Grade 12 supplemented by technical courses related to the work e.g. Water Distribution System Operator Certificate Level 2, Wastewater Collection Systems Operator Certification Level 2 or an equivalent combination of training and experience.  A valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence for the Province of British Columbia is required.  Please note that candidates without road construction experience are encouraged to apply. Plan Checker/Inspector

Applications are invited for a casual Plan Checker/Inspector to work in the Development Services and Economic Development Department providing coverage for vacation, absences and for work projects. Under the direction of the Chief Building Inspector, the Plan Checker/Inspector is responsible for reviewing plans accompanying applications for a variety of construction projects and coordinating the processing of applications through City departments.

RATE OF PAY: Pay Grade 26: $33.21 to $35.34 per hour (2011 C.U.P.E. rates)

HOURS OF WORK: Will vary according to need; Up to 35 hours per week (Monday to Friday)

Casual employees are paid 12% of their regular earnings in lieu of benefits and paid vacation.

A Level 1 Building Official Certification from the Building Officials’ Association of B.C. and a valid Class 5 B.C. Driver’s Licence are required. Graduation from a program at an Institute of Technology in building technology and a minimum of 2 years experience as a Plan Examiner in a city/municipality in the Province of B.C. with a primary focus on Part 3 buildings is desired.
