COVID-19 Safety Plan

In compliance with the new BC Health Officials orders, low-intensity fitness classes will begin on January 4 with the implementation of new Public Health guidelines.  As per the new restrictions, high-intensity programs such as Spin, Hot Yoga, Power Yoga, Zumba, and Bootcamp will remain suspended until further notice. 

The Weight Room remains open for 90-minute pre-booked sessions. Drop-in Sports programs including badminton, pickleball, and table tennis are available now for pre-booked sessions. Please check out the updated schedules for more information. 

We thank all of our patrons for their patience and understanding as we move through this process.

COVID-19 Safety Plan

As the COVID-19 situation continues to evolve, we are always considering what is best for the health and safety of our staff, our residents and the community that we serve. It is important to Langley City that we play our part in keeping our community safe. As we commence phase 3 of our re-opening plans, Timms Community Centre and Douglas Recreation Centre will remain closed to the public until further notice to prevent the spread of the virus and minimize the exposure of COVID-19. However, the weight room and indoor fitness classes are now open for registration.  Participants must pre-book their sessions- no drop-ins are permitted at this time.  Langley City staff are excited to welcome back our customers!  As the health and safety of our customers and staff are of utmost importance we ask for your patience at this time as we implement our Phase 3 re-opening plan which includes several new guidelines and policies to keep everyone safe.

Please remember:

  • Sanitize your hands before entering facilities and before using equipment.
  • Maintain a physical distance (at least 2 metres apart from others).
  • Avoid gathering in groups, even when lining up to enter or exit the building.
  • Avoid touching your face, mouth and nose with your hands;
  • Cover mouth with a tissue when coughing and sneezing
  • Discarding tissues into a waste container.
  • Sanitize all equipment used and put away before leaving your session.
  • Follow directions for entry and exit from the facility.
  • Masks are mandatory in all City facilities.  Masks must be worn in all common areas including entryways, hallways, stairways, washrooms.  Masks do not need to be worn during physical activity.

Annual Memberships have been suspended until February 15, 2021, with time added on to compensate for the closure.  Current memberships will be accepted as payment for weight room sessions but must be re-activated prior to registration for sessions. 

New memberships (10 pass, 20 pass and 1-month pass) will be available for purchase.

Visitors are required to wear a face mask inside all Langley City Facilities.  Masks may be taken off during exercise but must be worn upon entering the facility as well as in all common areas including hallways, stairways and washrooms.


WEIGHT ROOM RESERVATIONS:

  • Each weight room sessions is 90 minutes; patrons may use the weight room anytime during their booked session- you do not have to show up at the start but will be required to leave at the end of the 90 minute session.
  • Participants may book ahead up to one week in advance.
  • Reservations may be done up to 2 hours prior to the timeslot. No drop-ins permitted at this time.
  • 48 hours cancellation notice (prior to booked date) is required for a refund.

Please do not arrive early for your reservation as the weight room will be closed for 30 minutes between each session for cleaning and disinfecting

WHEN YOU ARRIVE FOR YOUR SESSION:

  • Enter Timms Community Centre through the North Entrance and go directly to the weight room to check in with the weight room attendant anytime within your 90-minute time slot. Do not arrive early as you will not be permitted into the facility until your booked time.
  • Masks must be worn in all common areas including:  entryways, hallways, stairways, washrooms.
  • The underground parking lot is not available at this time.  Please park in the parking area on the North side of the building.
  • The weight room will be closed 30 minutes between each session for deep cleaning and disinfecting of equipment and surfaces. 
  • Patrons must come dressed for the activity, change room space is not available.
  • Exit the building through the Weight Room Patio gate.  There will be no in/out privileges, once you exit the facility you may not return until your next scheduled appointment.

REFUNDS:

  • Refunds are permitted with a minimum of 48 hours notice prior to the reserved date.
  • Refunds will be credited to the customer’s account; customers can request a cheque refund for an account credit at any time.

PERSONAL TRAINING

PERSONAL TRAINING PROGRAMS:  

Work with a certified BCRPA personal trainer to create a tailored fitness program to meet your specific needs and goals.  Personal Training sessions are one hour each and will include a fitness assessment, detailed program design, motivational workouts and support from your trainer.  Need extra motivation and support?  Book tandem training sessions and train with a friend or spouse!  Training sessions will be scheduled according to your availability so there's no excuse.... book your trainer today!

HOW TO BOOK PERSONAL TRAINING:

1. Complete the Personal Training Package

2.  Submit your completed Personal Training Package to Reception at Timms Community Centre along with your payment.

3.  A Personal Trainer will contact you by phone to review your information and book your first appointment.

4.  Appointment times will be determined based on your availability and your selected trainers' schedule.

Please Note:  Personal Training packages are non-refundable.  There is no expiry date on your paid sessions.  All sessions are one hour long and may be booked daily, weekly or monthly depending on individual needs.

Fitness Class Information

 

INDOOR FITNESS CLASSES RESUME JANUARY 4!

BC announces new COVID-19 restrictions for Metro Vancouver health regions.  Updated Dec.16, 2020

High intensity classes such as: Spin, Bootcamp, Zumba, and Power Yoga will remain suspended until further notice. Participants are required to wear a face covering into the facility and in all common areas such as hallways, washrooms and entry/exits.  Face masks are not mandatory while exercising however participants are encouraged to wear their masks at all times. 

 

Location:  Timms Community Centre Gymnasium- 20399 Douglas Recreation Centre.

Registration:  Must pre-register for classes at least 2 hours in advance.  No Drop-ins!  Registration opens one week in advance for all classes.

Meeting/Check-in (gymnasium classes):  Line up at the North side of Timms Community Centre at the Gymnasium doors.  Please arrive 5-10 minutes prior to class start to check-in and get your equipment.  Please do not arrive early, doors will open 10 minutes prior to start time.

Meeting/Check-in (TRX classes):  Enter through the North entry doors to the facility; proceed directly upstairs to the fitness room to check-in with the instructor.  Please arrive 5-10 minutes prior to class start to check-in and get your equipment.  Please do not arrive early, entry will not be permitted before 10 minutes to start time.

Class Cancellations:  Cancellations  will be posted with a minimum of 2 hours notice.  Please check our website for updates.  
 
Refunds:  Participants may withdraw from a program at any time.  48 hours notice will be required for a credit/refund.  
 
Equipment:  Minimal equipment will be provided for classes.  Participants will also required to disinfect their equipment before and after use (disinfectant provided.)  Participants are encouraged to bring their own equipment including mats, towels, water bottles.
 
Washrooms:  Timms Community  Centre is not open to the public. Washrooms will be open to fitness class participants however there are no changing facilities- please come dressed in your workout gear!

CHAIR YOGA (14+yrs)

This gentle form of yoga is practiced sitting on a chair or standing and using the chair for support.  Chair yoga is a great form of exercise for everyone as it deepens flexibility and strengthens body awareness no matter what your age or ability level.  This is an all-level class appropriate for those who have never taken a yoga class before as well as experienced practitioners.  Every pose can be modified to work for you.

GENTLE YOGA (14+yrs)

Gentle Yoga follows the principles of Hatha Yoga focusing on a healthy mind-body connection while going through the positions at a slower pace with gentle movements and mindfulness.  This class is appropriate for all levels- beginners welcome!  Classes will consist of breathing techniques, strengthening standing poses, floor work, stretching and relaxation.  Participants are encouraged to wear layers and bring a light blanket for the relaxation portion of the class.

REGISTERED TAI-CHI

TAI-CHI -Yang Style  (18+yrs)

Brought to you by the Fraser Valley Tai Chi Arts.  Instructor Travis Crombie is a 7th generation teacher of Yang style Tai-Chi with over 30 years experience.  This ancient Chinese exercise emphasizes slow, graceful, connected and flowing movements to help relax the body and mind.  Combining the calm of meditation and  subtle martial art movements this Introductory class will teach:

  • fundamental exercises to help loosen and relax the body
  • correct body alignments to help heal and repair joint, ligament and tendon problems
  • energy flow and breathing techniques know in Chinese medicine as Qi (Chi)
  • natural movements to develop strength, fluidity, endurance and body cohesion.

FIT FOR LIFE (18+yrs)

Fit for Life is designed for those with Osteoporosis or bone density deficiencies who are actively mobile and regular exercisers.  Following a low-impact warm up, participants will be led through a variety of strength and balance exercises using light weighs, fit-balls and body weight exercises.  This class does involve mat work- participants must be comfortable getting to and from the floor.  Flexibility and relaxation techniques are also part of the fun!
