FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Langley, B.C. – The City of Langley is excited to announce the return of its free spring program, Choose To Move, in partnership with BC Recreation and Parks Association and the University of British Columbia’s Active Aging Society. This free program is tailored specifically for adults aged 55 and above, aiming to encourage physical activity and foster a sense of community among older adults. “Being active is one of the most important things you can do to maintain your overall health. Being active can help you feel better, have more energy, and live longer”, expresses Christine Daum, Recreation Supervisor. The Choose To Move program is crafted to assist older adults who aspire to embrace a more active way of living. Set to begin from April 20 to June 22, 2024, and will provide participants with individual guidance, opportunities to develop connections within your community, and a personalized plan that is evidence-based. Weekly Saturday motivational group meetings are scheduled to ensure participants remain motivated and steadfast on their journey toward a healthier lifestyle.

Participants can expect:

  • Personalized Guidance: Each participant will work closely with a knowledgeable activity coach to create a tailored activity plan that suits their preferences, schedule, and abilities. This one-on-one consultation ensures that participants receive individualized support throughout their journey.
  • Community Connection: Engage with like-minded peers during eight dynamic group meetings. These sessions provide opportunities to share goals, stay accountable, and explore various health and wellness topics together, fostering a supportive environment for all participants.
  • Not Just a Fitness Class: Choose To Move is more than just a fitness program; it’s an empowering experience that equips participants with the knowledge and confidence to lead a physically active and socially connected lifestyle.
  • Backed by Science: Developed by the University of British Columbia’s Active Aging Research Team, Choose To Move is grounded in sound scientific research, ensuring participants receive evidence-based support and guidance.
