Public Notice: South Reservoir Watermain Flushing - Fall 2023

Date
-
Location
South Zone, Langley City

City crews will be conducting water main flushing between October 15 to December 15, 2023.

The process of flushing the water system is supervised by city staff who make sure that the water that is released has no chlorine and goes into the nearest Drainage Opening.

Water main flushing is a technique used to clean water distribution pipes by sending a rapid flow of water through the mains. Here’s why we do it:

  1. Remove Sediments: Over time, sediments build up in water mains. Flushing helps remove these deposits, ensuring cleaner water.
  2. Improve Water Quality: The water entering distribution mains is of high quality, but it can deteriorate if not managed properly. Flushing maintains water quality by removing impurities.
  3. Enhance System Operation: Flushing identifies weak or problem areas, improves hydraulic capacity, and extends the life of system components.
  4. Temporary Discoloration: During flushing, you may experience low pressure and discolored water, but it’s not a health hazard. Run cold water until clear if you notice any discoloration.
  5. Discharging Water: This is supervised by city staff who make sure that the water that is released has no chlorine and goes into the nearest Catch Basin.

If flushing occurs in your area you may experience discoloured water. Run your taps until the water becomes clear. If you have any questions call the City at 604-514-2910.
