Facilities

Douglas Recreation Centre is closed, and Timms Community Centre will be closed starting at 6:30 pm today. All FVRL libraries are closed today including the City of Langley Library. For the most up-to-date information on recreation programming over the holiday season, call (604) 514-2940.

Snow Removal

City crews will continue to clear roads in a priority sequence, and shovel City-owned median letdowns and sidewalks. Consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve. Keep roads clear for those who have to be on them. To report any snow and ice concerns, submit a request here.

Curbside Pickup Services

Regular curbside collection will proceed today, weather and road permitting. We ask for your patience as teams work through the snowy and cold conditions. If your pick-up has not occurred, please email col@emterra.ca.

How You Can Help During Snow Events

After it snows, do your part to help keep sidewalks safe and usable for people who depend on them to get around. Sidewalk and walkway clearance is your responsibility. Highway & Traffic Bylaw No. 2871 requires residential (single-family and multi-family) owners and occupants, as well as commercial and industrial properties, to remove snow and ice from sidewalks adjacent to the property within 24 hours of snowfall.

A few other reminders:

  • Shovel early and often to keep snow from building up or turning to ice, making it more difficult to clear.
  • Push snow onto your lawn or a designated parking stall, NOT the street. Shovelling snow onto the road is a vehicle hazard and creates more work for snow plows, which slows down the clearing process.
  • Clear any debris, including snow from storm/drainage catch basins, to minimize flooding in your neighbourhood as snow melts.
  • Clear a path to your waste collection receptacles to help collection crews.

Langley Snow Angel Program

The Langley Volunteers, an independently run non-profit organization, has a Snow Angels program to connect volunteers to people with mobility issues and unable to clear snow. If you live in Langley, are unable to clear snow due to mobility issues, or willing to volunteer, you can sign up here to volunteer or request a Snow Angel. They match volunteers with requestors in your neighbourhood to keep your walkways clear.
